- ½ teaspoon (½ inch root) fresh ginger ((chopped or ¼ teaspoon dried ginger for no brew option))
- ⅛ teaspoon ground black pepper ((3 to 4 whole pepper corn crushed))
- ½ to 1 teaspoon ghee (or cold pressed extra virgin oil (avocado/ olive/coconut))
- 1¼ cup water
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice (or ¼ cup warm/slightly hot orange juice or as needed (optional))
- 1 teaspoon honey or jaggery to taste ((optional))
Method
How to make Turmeric Tea
- Option 1 - No brew: Add turmeric powder, ground dried ginger, black pepper, ghee/oil and lemon juice to a cup. Bring 1 cup water to a rolling boil in a pot or in a kettle and pour to the cup.
- Stir well and cover. Let steep for 2 mins and serve. If you want you may add sweetener.
- Option 2 in a saucepan: Mix together water, turmeric, ginger and black pepper in a small pot/pan. Bring to a boil and reduce the heat to medium.
- Simmer for 4 to 8 mins, depending on how strong you want the drink to be. Stir in the ghee or oil and strain to a cup.
- You may stir in honey if you prefer but only in warm turmeric tea (not hot). If you want stir in some lemon juice or warm/ slightly hot orange juice. If you feel the tea is too strong for your taste, simply add more hot water (not cold) to dilute.

Keep this recipe as a working base: cook once as written, then adjust spice, texture, and serving style for your own table.
