Ingredients
- 8 slices Bread (cubed - 4½ cups)
- 2 tablespoons oil (or butter)
- ¾ teaspoon cumin (or jeera)
- 1 medium onion (- ½ cup chopped)
- 1 green chilli (chopped)
- 1 teaspoon ginger garlic paste (or chopped garlic)
- 2 medium tomatoes (- ¾ cup chopped)
- salt as needed
- ¾ teaspoon pav bhaji masala (- substitute with ½ tsp garam masala)
- ½ to ¾ teaspoon chilli powder
- ½ teaspoon garam masala
- 3 tablespoon water (to cook masala)
- 1 teaspoon kasuri methi ((dried fenugreek leaves) optional)
- 3 tablespoon coriander leaves (or cilantro chopped)
- chaat masala (as needed)
- 3 tablespoon onions (very finely chopped)
Method
- Cube the bread and keep aside. Chop onions and tomatoes finely. Reserve some onions to garnish.
- Heat oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds and let sizzle for 30 seconds. Add the onions and chilies. Saute till they turn golden.
- Add ginger garlic paste and saute until the raw smell is gone, for a minute. Stir in the tomatoes, salt, garam masala, pav bhaji masala and chili powder.
- Saute until the tomatoes break down and the masala turns aromatic. Pour 3 tbsp of water and cook till the masala begins to bubble & turns thick. Crush kasuri methi in your palm and add it
- Taste test and adjust salt or spices to your taste. Stir in the bread and coat gently with the masala. Garnish with coriander leaves, sprinkle chaat masala and reserved onions.
- Spicy Bread Masala is best served immediately.
