Ingredients

  • ¾ cup rava / semolina / suji (coarse)
  • ¼ cup curd / yogurt
  • 1 chilli (finely chopped)
  • ½ tsp ginger paste
  • few curry leaves (chopped)
  • 2 tbsp coriander (finely chopped)
  • 1 tsp cumin / jeera
  • 2 tbsp onion (finely chopped)
  • pinch hing / asafoetida
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup water
  • ¼ tsp baking soda
  • oil for frying

Method

  1. firstly, in a large mixing bowl take ¾ cup rava.
  2. add ¼ cup curd, 1 chilli, ½ tsp ginger paste, few curry leaves and 2 tbsp coriander.
  3. further add 1 tsp cumin, 2 tbsp onion, pinch hing and ½ tsp salt.
  4. mix well making sure the batter is slightly watery.
  5. rest for 10 minutes, or until the rava absorbs and swells.
  6. after 10 minutes, the batter will turn slightly thick.
  7. now add ¼ tsp baking soda and mix gently.
  8. drop a small ball sized batter into hot oil.
  9. stir occasionally, frying on medium flame until the pakoda turns golden and crisp.
  10. drain off the pakoda over a kitchen towel to absorb excess oil.
  11. finally, enjoy suji pakoda recipe with tomato sauce or coconut chutney.
