Ingredients

for suji balls:

  • 1 cup rava / suji / semolina (coarse)
  • 3 tsp oil
  • 1 chilli (finely chopped)
  • 1 inch ginger (finely chopped)
  • 2½ cup water
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ cup coconut (grated)

for tempering:

  • 3 tsp oil
  • 1 tsp mustard
  • ½ tsp cumin / jeera
  • ½ tsp urad dal
  • ½ tsp chana dal
  • 5 cashew / kaju (halves)
  • few curry leaves
  • 1 dried red chilli
  • ¼ tsp turmeric
  • ¼ tsp kahmiri red chilli powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp coriander (finely chopped)
  • 2 tsp lemon juice

Method

  1. firstly, in a large kadai heat 3 tsp oil and saute 1 chilli and 1 inch ginger.
  2. pour in 2½ cup water.
  3. also, add ½ tsp salt and ¼ cup coconut. mix well.
  4. get the water to a rapid boil.
  5. keeping the flame on low start adding roasted rava slowly, stirring continuously.
  6. cover and cook for 3 minutes or until the rava turns soft and fluffy.
  7. knead the dough for 5 minutes and prepare small balls.
  8. steam for 10 minutes.
  9. further in a large kadai heat 3 tsp oil and add tempering ingredients.
  10. now add ¼ tsp turmeric, ¼ tsp chilli powder and ¼ tsp salt.
  11. furthermore, add steamed rava balls and mix gently.
  12. also, add 2 tbsp coriander and 2 tsp lemon juice. mix well.
  13. finally, enjoy suji balls / rava balls with spicy chutney.
