Ingredients

  • 48 oz. root beer (6 cups)
  • 1 14-oz. can sweetened condensed milk
  • Maraschino cherries (for serving)

Steps

  1. In a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, bring 48 oz. root beer (6 cups) to a boil and cook until slightly reduced, about 10 minutes. Take off the heat and whisk in one 14-oz. can sweetened condensed milk. Pour into a 13×9" baking dish and let cool for about 30 minutes.
  2. Put the baking dish in the freezer for 90 minutes. Scrape with a fork, including around the edges, which will feel slushy while the centre is still fairly liquid. Keep freezing and scraping about every hour until fluffy like shaved ice, about 3 hours more.
  3. Scoop into glasses or bowls for serving and top with maraschino cherries.
