Easy Pottukadalai Halwa Recipe | Fried Bengal Gram Halwa - No Sugar

Ingredients

  • 1 cup pottukadalai / putani / roasted gram dal
  • 2 tbsp ghee
  • 1½ cup jaggery
  • 2 cup water
  • pinch saffron food colour
  • ½ tsp cardamom powder
  • 2 tbsp cashew

Method

  1. Firstly, in a mixer jar take 1 cup pottukadalai and grind to a fine powder.
  2. In a pan heat 2 tbsp ghee and roast pottukadalai powder.
  3. Roast for 3 to 4 minutes or until the roasted gram dal powder turns aromatic. Keep aside.
  4. In a saucepan take 1½ cup jaggery and 2 cup water.
  5. Stir and melt all the jaggery. Boil the jaggery water for 1 minute.
  6. Pour the jaggery water into the mixture and mix well.
  7. Stir continuously until the mixture is well combined.
  8. Also, add pinch saffron food colour and ½ tsp cardamom powder.
  9. Continue to stir until the mixture thickens and turns into a silky consistency.
  10. Further, add ½ tsp cardamom powder and 2 tbsp ghee.
  11. Mix well until the mixture separates the pan.
  12. Now add 2 tbsp cashew and mix well. The halwa thickens once cooled.
