Ingredients

  • 2 cup peas / matar (soaked/frozen)
  • 3 cup water
  • 1 tbsp ghee / clarified butter
  • 1 tsp mustard
  • 1 tsp jeera / cumin
  • pinch hing / asafoetida
  • few curry leaves
  • 1 onion (finely chopped)
  • 1 tsp ginger garlic paste
  • 2 green chilli (finely chopped)
  • 1 tomato (finely chopped)
  • ½ tsp garam masala
  • ¾ tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp coriander (finely chopped)

Method

  1. firstly, in a blender take 2 cups of soaked peas.
  2. blend to a coarse paste without adding any water.
  3. transfer the coarse peas paste to cooker along with 3 cup water.
  4. pressure cook for 2 whistles on medium flame.
  5. now in a large kadai heat 1 tbsp ghee and splutter 1 tsp mustard, 1 tsp jeera, pinch hing and few curry leaves.
  6. now add 1 onion and saute well followed by 1 tsp ginger garlic paste and 2 green chilli.
  7. also, add 1 tomato and saute till the tomatoes turn soft and mushy.
  8. further, add ½ tsp garam masala and ¾ tsp salt.
  9. saute till the spices get cooked well.
  10. add in cooked peas and mix well.
  11. boil on medium flame for 2 minutes or until flavours are absorbed.
  12. now add 2 tbsp coriander leaves and mix well.
  13. finally, serve matar ki dal recipe with hot steamed rice.
