Easy Lauki Chana Dal Recipe | Healthy Dudhi Chana Dal In Pressure Cooker

Ingredients
for pressuer cooking:
- 3 cup lauki / dudhi / bottle gourd (chopped)
- 1 cup chana dal
- 1 tsp ghee
- ¼ tsp turmeric
- ½ tsp chilli powder
- ½ tsp salt
- 2 cup water
for chana dal:
- 2 tbsp ghee
- 1 tsp cumin
- pinch hing
- 5 cloves garlic (chopped)
- 1 onion (finely chopped)
- ½ tsp turmeric
- 1 tsp chilli powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- ½ tsp cumin powder
- 1 tsp garam masala
- 2 chilli (slit)
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 cup water
- 2 tbsp coriander (chopped)
- 1 tbsp kasuri methi (crushed)
for tempering:
- 2 tsp ghee
- ½ tsp cumin
- pinch chilli powder
Method
- Firstly, in a large bowl soak 1 cup chana dal for 30 minutes.
- Peel the skin of lauki and chop them roughly.
- In a pressure cooker, take 3 cup lauki, 1 cup soaked chana dal.
- Add 1 tsp ghee, ¼ tsp turmeric, ½ tsp chilli powder and ½ tsp salt.
- Saute for 2 minutes or until everything is well combined.
- Add 2 cup water and pressure cook for 4 whistles. Make sure not to add more water, as lauki will release water while cooking.
- In a large kadai heat 2 tbsp ghee. Add 1 tsp cumin, pinch hing and 5 cloves garlic.
- Saute until the garlic turns aromatic.
- Add 1 onion and saute until the onions turn golden brown. You can also add ginger paste here.
- Further keeping the flame on low, add ½ tsp turmeric, 1 tsp chilli powder, 1 tsp coriander powder, ½ tsp cumin powder, 1 tsp garam masala, 2 chilli and ½ tsp salt.
- Saute on low flame until the spices turn aromatic.
- Also, add 2 tomato and saute until the oil releases.
- Now add in cooked dal and mix gently.
- Add 1 cup water and adjust the consistency as required.
- Cover and simmer for 5 minutes, or until the dal absorbs the flavour.
- Furthermore, in a pan heat 2 tsp ghee, ½ tsp cumin and pinch chilli powder.
- Pour the tempering over the dal.
- Also add 2 tbsp coriander, 1 tbsp kasuri methi and mix well.
