Ingredients

  • ½ cup peas (fresh / frozen)
  • 1 small potato (cubed)
  • 5 beans (chopped)
  • 1 carrot (chopped)
  • 2 cups water
  • ½ tsp turmeric / haldi
  • salt to taste
  • ½ cup tamarind extract
  • 1 tsp jaggery
  • ½ cup toor dal (cooked)
  • 3-4 tsp bisi bele bath masala powder
  • 1 cup thick avalakki / poha / beaten rice / flattened rice (washed)
  • 1 tbsp ghee / clarified butter

for tempering:

  • 1 tbsp ghee / clarified butter
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds / rai
  • pinch asafoetida / hing
  • few curry leaves / kadi patta
  • 10 cashews (haved)

Method

  1. firstly, in a large kadai take mixed vegetables add cook with 2 cups.
  2. furthermore, add turmeric and salt.
  3. cover and boil for 10 minutes or till the vegetables are ¾ done.
  4. once the vegetables are cooked, squeeze the juice from tamarind.
  5. also add jaggery.
  6. further add cooked toor dal.
  7. mix well and boil for 5 minutes.
  8. further add 3-4 tsp of bisi bele bath masala powder.
  9. also add salt and mix well.
  10. additionally, add thick poha.
  11. mix well and add a tbsp of more ghee.
  12. simmer for 10 minutes or till the avalakki / poha gets cooked completely.
  13. meanwhile, prepare the tempering by heating ghee.
  14. further add mustard seeds, hing and curry leaves. allow to splutter.
  15. additionally and cashews and fry golden brown.
  16. pour the tempering onto the prepared aval bisi bele bath.
  17. finally, serve avalakki bisi bele bath with raita and mixture.
