Ingredients

for masala paste:

  • ½ cup coconut (grated)
  • ½ tsp mustard
  • 2 dried kashmiri red chilli
  • ¼ tsp turmeric / haldi

other ingredients:

  • 1 tbsp coconut oil
  • 1 tsp mustard
  • ½ tsp urad dal
  • 1 dried kashmiri red chilli
  • few curry leaves
  • 2 tbsp peanuts
  • 2 tbsp tamarind extract
  • ½ tsp jaggery / gud
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 3 cup cooked rice

Method

  1. firstly in a blender take ½ cup coconut, ½ tsp mustard, 2 dried kashmiri red chilli and ¼ tsp turmeric.
  2. blend to a coarse paste without adding any water.
  3. now heat kadai with 1 tbsp of coconut oil.
  4. add 1 tsp mustard, ½ tsp urad dal, 1 dried red chilli, few curry leaves and 2 tbsp peanuts.
  5. saute and splutter on medium flame.
  6. further, add 2 tbsp tamarind extract, ½ tsp jaggery and ½ tsp salt. cook well.
  7. now add prepared masala paste and saute for 2 minutes
  8. further, add 3 cup cooked rice and mix gently.
  9. finally, serve udupi chitranna / masala chitranna hot or pack to your lunch box.
