Ingredients
- 1 cup brown basmati rice
- 1 1/4 cup water ((or vegetable broth))
- 1 teaspoon olive oil (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt (optional)
Method
Instant Pot Method
- Rinse the brown basmati rice thoroughly, repeating the process 2-3 times until the water runs clear. This helps to remove excess starch from the rice grains. Note: This is a no-soak method, and my rice always turns out soft, fluffy, and separated.
- Add the rinsed brown basmati rice, water (or vegetable broth), oil, and salt to the Instant Pot steel insert. Give the mixture a quick stir. Securely close the lid and set the vent to " SEALING ". Then, choose the PRESSURE COOK/MANUAL (High Pressure) setting and adjust the cooking time to 22 minutes.
- When the Instant Pot beeps, allow the pressure to release naturally for 10 minutes, and then open the lid. Use a fork or ladle to fluff up the rice. Do not stir.
- Serve rice hot with any curry of your choice.
How to Cook Pot-in-Pot Basmati Rice
- In a small stainless steel container (or pyrex glass bowl), add 1 cup of rinsed brown basmati rice, and 1 ¼ cup water. Add 1 cup of water to the 6-quart inner pot. Place a trivet on the inner pot. Then place a small container with rice and water on the trivet, covering it with a lid. Proceed with the remaining recipe instructions.
