Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 tbsp melted butter
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla powder (optional)
  • 1 medium mackerel, cleaned (or 1 can of sardine)
  • 3 grated carrots
  • 3 tbsp cooking oil
  • 1 tsp seasoning powder
  • 1 tsp thyme
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • chopped green onion

Steps

  1. Boil the mackerel with seasoning powder, thyme and salt in water for 5 minutes. Take out the bones and flake the fish. If you are using canned sardine, omit this step.
  2. Warm the oil in a pan, then add the flaked fish and grated carrots and stir thoroughly.
  3. Stir in the seasoning powder, thyme, salt, garlic powder and chopped green onion well. Cook for about 5 minutes, then take the filling off the heat and allow it to cool completely.
  4. Mix the warm water, melted butter, egg, sugar, salt, baking powder and vanilla powder, if using, thoroughly in a large bowl.
  5. Work in the flour gradually until a soft dough forms. Knead for about 10 minutes to make the dough smooth and elastic.
  6. Make equal portions of the dough and roll each into a long oval.
  7. Put about 1 tablespoon of filling at one end of each piece of dough. Roll up tightly, then use a little water to brush and seal the edge.
  8. Heat oil over medium heat, then deep-fry the rolls in batches until every side is golden brown and crispy.
  9. Let the rolls drain on paper towels, then serve.
