Dreamy Custard Toasts
Ingredients
- 2 slices bread
- 1 tablespoon custard powder (vanilla or flavor of your choice)
- 2 cups milk
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 tablespoon caramel syrup
- 1 teaspoon hazelnut syrup
- 6-8 almonds
- Vanilla ice cream (for topping) or I have topping falooda ice cream
Steps
- Put the custard powder in a small bowl and bring the milk to a boil in a saucepan.
- As the milk starts to boil, pour a few tablespoons of it, still hot, into the custard powder and mix to a smooth, lump-free consistency. Cut the bread slices in half. Melt butter in a heated tawa or non-stick pan, then lay in the bread and toast both sides to light golden brown.
- Take the toasted bread out and arrange it in a shallow serving dish. Add the custard mixture to the remaining milk in the pan, stirring without stopping.
- Simmer for a few minutes until the custard has thickened slightly. Grind the almonds coarsely, rather than to a fine powder. Mix the almond powder into the custard along with caramel syrup and hazelnut syrup, combining well.
- Pour the warm flavoured custard over the toast in the serving dish. Let the dessert reach room temperature before refrigerating it until chilled. Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream to the top of each piece before serving; extra caramel drizzled over it or more crushed almonds sprinkled on top are optional.
