Ingredients

  • 100 g spinach
  • 50 g chickpeas split (chana dal)
  • 1 handful dill leaves (optional)
  • 1 handful sorrel leaves (ambat chuka) Optional
  • 1 onion finely chopped
  • 1 tomato chopped
  • 1 potato chopped in small pieces
  • 1 brinjal chopped in small pieces
  • 1 green chilli
  • 1 tbsp coriander powder
  • 1 tbsp red chilli powder
  • 1 tbsp turmeric powder
  • 1 Salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp cumin seeds
  • 2-3 tbsp oil
  • 1/2 glass water

Steps

  1. Soak the split chickpeas (chana dal) in water for 1/2 an hour. Meanwhile, chop all the listed greens and vegetables, then wash them and set them aside.
  2. Put oil in a pressure cooker. Once it is hot, add cumin seeds and onion and cook over a medium flame until the onion turns pink.
  3. Add the tomato and cook for two minutes. Add potato, all the greens, brinjal, green chilli and split chickpeas, then mix.
  4. Add all the dry masalas: salt, turmeric powder, red chilli powder and coriander powder. Mix once, then add water.
  5. Close the lid and cook over a high flame for 1 whistle. Lower the flame and cook for another 2 whistles, then turn off the flame and let the cooker cool down.
  6. After the cooker has cooled, open the lid and mash the vegetables completely with a wooden hand blender, as you would dal. Warm the vegetables for a few minutes and serve with rice or roti.
