Split yellow moong dal cheela/dhirde
Ingredients
- 1 cup split yellow moong dal
- 1 big sized onion finely chopped
- 1 carrot washed,peeled and grated
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 2 sprigs curry leaves
- 2-3 green chillies
- 1/2 tsp grated ginger
- Handful coriander leaves
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp red chilli powder (optional)
- As required Water
- As required Oil
- to taste Pink salt
Steps
- After washing and rinsing the moong dal, leave it to soak for at least 3-4 hours. Cover it and keep it aside.
- Drain off the water, keeping it instead of throwing it away.
- Use a blender to make a fine paste from the dal and a little water.
- Move the paste into a vessel. Leaving out the oil, add all the ingredients mentioned above and mix well. Add water to achieve a medium pouring consistency, as for cheelas.
- Heat an iron tawa and grease it well with some oil. Pour a ladleful of batter onto it and spread. Drizzle some oil in from the sides and cover with a lid over a low-medium flame.
- When the upper layer looks dry, flip it over and cook the other side without a lid.
- After the other side has cooked for 20-25 seconds, remove it to a plate.
- Sauce, chutney or curd can accompany the moong dal cheelas when you serve them.
