Ingredients

  • 2 Potatoes *about 300g
  • 1 can (125 g) Mackerel in Brine
  • 1 Spring Onion *finely chopped
  • Shichimi (Japanese Chilli Spice Mix) *OR Ground Chilli, optional
  • 1 small piece Ginger *grated
  • 1 tablespoon Miso *I used White Miso
  • 1/2 tablespoon Sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Mirin
  • 1/2-1 teaspoon Soy Sauce *alter the amount depending on the saltiness of Miso
  • 1 teaspoon Sesame Oil

Steps

  1. Peel Potatoes, cut into bite-size pieces, cook in slightly salted water until soft.
  2. Combine all the Sauce ingredients in a mixing bowl. Alter the amount of Soy Sauce depending on the saltiness of the Miso you use. *Note: I used mild White Miso and added 1 teaspoon Soy Sauce. You might need no Soy Sauce at all.
  3. Darin cooked Potato pieces and add to the sauce. Drain canned Mackerel, break into bite-size pieces and add to the sauce. Add Spring Onion, saving some for topping, and mix to combine.
  4. Sprinkle with the saved Spring Onion and some Shichimi (Japanese Chilli Spice Mix), and serve.
