India's food regulator has notified stricter front-of-pack labelling norms for packaged snacks, requiring clearer declarations of sugar, salt and saturated fat content.
The new rules give manufacturers a transition window, after which non-compliant packaging cannot be sold. Consumer groups have welcomed the move, while industry bodies are seeking a longer runway.
What to look for on the shelf
Expect a simplified nutrition panel on the front of the pack and per-serve percentages of recommended daily intake. Health claims will face tighter scrutiny.
