Ingredients

  • 1 (15 ounce) package pastry for a 9-inch double crust pie
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 3 Granny Smith apples, peeled and sliced, or more to taste
  • 3 gala apples, peeled and sliced, or more to taste
  • 1 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk, or as needed
  • 1 dash vanilla extract

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  2. Lightly roll 1 pie crust on a work surface with a rolling pin into a 9×13-inch rectangle, trimming crust if needed. Press crust into a 9×13-inch baking dish, placing any trimmed crust pieces in the corners.
  3. Whisk white sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg together in a bowl until combined; toss in Granny Smith and Gala apples until evenly coated. Arrange apple mixture over crust; pour any remaining juices over apples.
  4. Lightly roll remaining 1 pie crust on a work surface with a rolling pin into a 9×13-inch rectangle; place over apple filling, folding edges over apples to completely cover.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven until crust is lightly browned, 45 to 50 minutes. Cool slightly, about 20 minutes.
  6. Whisk confectioners' sugar, milk, and vanilla extract together in a bowl until smooth, adding more milk as needed until icing reaches desired consistency; drizzle over bars.
