Banana Flower Fry
Ingredients
- 1 Banana Flower
- 2 tbsp Coconut Oil
- 3/4 tsp Ginger Garlic Green Chilli paste
- 1/2 tsp Salt or to taste
- 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
- 1 tsp Kashmiri Red Chilli powder
- 1/2 tsp Coriander powder
- 1 large chopped Onion
- 2-3 dry Red Chillies
- 1/2 tsp Black Mustard Seeds
- 2-3 tbsp chopped Coriander Leaves
Steps
- Inspect the banana florets thoroughly. Remove the calyx first and then the rubber-like pistil without fail; neither part is cooked, so discard both. Repeat for all the florets, wash under running water, and keep immersed in a bowl with some salt to prevent oxidation from darkening them. Chop coarsely.
- Heat coconut oil in a pan, add black mustard seeds and let them splutter over low heat. Add the chopped onion, then the dry red chillies and ginger-garlic-green chilli paste with some salt. Sauté thoroughly until light brown. Mix in the other powdered spices and banana florets, then cover and cook until soft and done.
- Cooking takes about 18 to 20 minutes. Garnish generously with chopped coriander leaves. Serve hot to your family at breakfast with rotis or chapatis, or at lunch or dinner with chawal or rice.
- Enjoy the banana flower fry.
