Homemade Salsa Recipe (5 Minute Tomato Salsa)
Ingredients
- ¾ cup chopped tomatoes or 2 medium-sized tomatoes
- ⅓ cup chopped onions or 1 medium sized onion
- 1 teaspoon chopped green chillies or serrano peppers or jalapeño
- ½ teaspoon ground cumin (cumin powder)
- ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper or cayenne pepper or paprika or red chilli powder
- salt as required
- 2 teaspoons lemon juice or add as required
- 2 tablespoons chopped coriander leaves (cilantro)
Steps
Preparation
- Wash the tomatoes, onion, green chillies and coriander leaves, then chop them roughly.
- The seeds may be removed from both the tomatoes and the green chilies or serrano peppers, if desired.
Making salsa
- Put the chopped produce into a food processor.
- Season with the ground spices and as much salt as required.
- Pour in 2 teaspoon lemon juice, adding more if a tangier salsa is preferred.
- Put the lid on and process to a fine consistency that is still slightly chunky. Pulsing a little at a time is recommended to avoid overprocessing.
Serving Suggestions
- Either serve the salsa straight away or refrigerate it in a sealed container for later.
- Offer it with chips or crackers, such as nachos, pita crackers or tortilla chips.
- It may also be used as a zesty condiment on Vegetarian Tacos, burritos, enchiladas, quesadillas, Mexican rice or other favorite Mexican-inspired dishes.
