Ingredients

  • 250 grams white button mushrooms
  • 10 grams garlic cloves or 1 tablespoon finely chopped garlic
  • 2 tablespoons butter – salted or unsalted
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano or dried basil or dried herbs – can also add 2 teaspoons of fresh parsley or coriander leaves or fresh basil
  • ½ teaspoon black peppercorns – crushed or ¾ to 1 teaspoon crushed black pepper – add as required
  • salt as required

Steps

  1. Clean the mushrooms by rinsing or wiping, then chop them.
  2. Put 2 tablespoons butter in a pan over low heat. Keep it low so the butter does not burn.
  3. Add the finely chopped garlic and sauté over low heat for about half a minute, until its raw aroma disappears.
  4. Add the button mushrooms, stir and sauté over low to medium heat. They will initially give off plenty of water.
  5. Continue sautéing the mushrooms to evaporate all the water they have released.
  6. If you wish, continue sautéing until the mushrooms are light golden or golden at their edges.
  7. Once all the water is gone and the mixture looks dry, add dried herbs, crushed black pepper and salt. Use any dried herb you prefer; the reported preparation used 1 teaspoon dried oregano.
  8. After mixing everything well, switch off the heat.
  9. Serve the Garlic Butter Mushrooms on their own or alongside bread or any flatbread.
